Editing Linux Boot Menu

I have learned to edit boot menu from gedit, in Linux.
It's like this, first open up terminal then type

su -c 'gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf'

After entering the root password I can edit boot menu time from changing the number on "timeout" and I can change default boot OS from changing the number on "default"(If you have a dualboot with Linux distro).

  1. Think we have dual O/S.Accidentally we had to repair windows. After reinstalling windows,we do not get the boot menu.I know it is possible to get the boot menu using Live CD without reinstalling Linux version.do you know the way to do it??

As far as I know when you install windows after Linux the memory sector on the hard disk which keeps the GRUB boot menu gets erased.

Why don't you ask it in a forum?
    e.g LinuxQuestions.org

-seems a good article. I hope it works. It should work for other distros too.
